Professor emeritus, Professor, emeritus
Primary fields of research
My main interest is the origin and evolution of the animal kingdom.
More specific interests include larval development of marine invertebrates, structure and function of ciliary bands (especially in larvae but also in adult polychaetes), entoprocts.
Current projects: Discussion of the origin and early evolution of the Metazoa, discussion of "the origin of larvae", structure and function of myoepithelial pharynges and their phylogenetic significance, discussion of the homology concept.
