Vinicius Ferreira is currently a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral researcher at the Natural History Museum of Denmark working in Alexey Solodvnikov’s lab. Vinicius is particularly interested in how paedomorphosis affects speciation, morphology and biology within Coleoptera, and to investigate these phenomena he employs an integrative approach, utilizing a variety of techniques, including microCT scans, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Sanger PCR and Anchored Hybrid Enrichment (AHE) in a phylogenetic framework. His current project seeks to identify evolutionary drivers and patterns behind the repeated evolution of highly convergent morphological features in beetle lineages affected by the paedomorphic syndrome, and to understand how our lack of understanding of the homology hypotheses behind these characters affect our morphology-based phylogenetic reconstructions. Vinicius's primary interest is focused on the evolution, systematics and taxonomy of soft-bodied Elateroidea ("squishy beetles"), mainly of the families Lycidae (net-winged beetles), but also, Lampyridae (fireflies) and Omethidae (including Telegeusinae) (false soldier-beetles and long lipped beetles). Besides entomology, Vinicius is interested in history of entomology and zoology, problems and challenges of  using biodiversity information of natural history museums, and theory and practice of phylogenetics.
