Current tasks: Node Manager of the DanBIF Secretariat

DanBIF (Danish Biodiversity Information Facility) is the Danish Participant Node of GBIF - The Global Biodiversity Information Facility. The DanBIF Secretariat resides at the Zoological Museum and employs four people. DanBIF was established July 1, 2001 and is funded by the Danish Natural Science Research Council of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and The Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen.

The international organisation GBIF aims to make the world's information on biodiversity freely and universally available for query and analysis via the Internet. This will be accomplished through the concerted efforts of the GBIF members, which include countries, economies and organisations. Each member contributes to GBIF through a participant?s node.

Former duties

Work Package coordinator, WP 2 of EDIT, June 1, 2006 through August 31, 2007:
The European Distributed Institute of Taxonomy - EDIT - is the collective answer of 27 leading European, North American and Russian institutions to a call of the European Commission, issued in 2004, for a network in Taxonomy for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research. This project has started on the 1rst of March 2006 and will last 5 years.

EDIT WP2 objectives include to:
- Obtain an overview of the European taxonomic expert and expertise basis and its relation to the global expert and expertise basis
- Facilitate the setting up of taxonomic task forces to address specific research objectives identified by EDIT
- Make information on the expert and expertise basis easily available for all potential users
- Optimize allocation of national and European resources (avoiding unnecessary duplication of expertise)
